Not by choice, probably because I was never a willing student in the first place. Nonetheless, I have some valuable lessons being heaped upon me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Suffering from these chronic chiari headaches, I have learned how to try and cope and push through the day to day stuff even when you\u2019d rather just lay down. It\u2019s helped me cinch up a couple of notches on my baby belt and quit pegging out my wuss-o-meter. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">That is, unless Kathy\u2019s around and then I lay it on thick because she is awesome with the neck rubs. No one forward her this article\u2026 don\u2019t ruin this for me!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">And, more recently, I have learned other lessons from the broken (or, as my doctor described it, the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-498\" title=\"the-toe\" src=\"http:\/\/one-church.net\/crosseyedlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/the-toe-300x294.jpg\" alt=\"the-toe\" width=\"300\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.crosseyedlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/the-toe-300x294.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.crosseyedlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/the-toe-1024x1004.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.crosseyedlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/the-toe.jpg 1223w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>shattered and fractured) big toe. That one will get you to slow down in a big hurry whether you like it, or not.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">By the way, nothing is as sexy as an ankle high medical boot\u2026 Grrrrr\u2026.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Yep, God is really teaching me some new stuff head to toe.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">I have to admit, I never really paid attention to my big toe until now, but as of last week he has my full attention. Each day I would say goodbye to him as I slipped a sock over him and shoved him in a shoe, never asking his permission. He was kind of like a daily kidnap victim being hooded and thrown in the trunk of a car and driven around all day.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Hmmm, interesting metaphor.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">But, now he is center stage (no, I don\u2019t know why I have made my big toe a he and a not a she? Probably because it would make me uncomfortable to shower with it if I didn\u2019t).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Now I gingerly place him in an open toe medical boot.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Now I swing him far out of play whenever dancing children enter the room.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Now I prop him up on footstools, other chairs, coffee tables, desks, and other people whenever I get the chance. Doctors orders.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Now I and everyone I talk to spend part of every conversation gawking at him, discussing him and reviewing his situation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">With every move I make I am reminded that the doctor told me, you don\u2019t take a single step without that big toe providing support, direction and thrust.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Who knew?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">I do\u2026 now.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Too often we don\u2019t know what we\u2019ve got until it\u2019s gone (80s power ballad by Cinderella\u2026 not an endorsement, just a fact).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The toe is fundamental to walking, and walking is fundamental to everything if you\u2019re used to walking! So, for the next three to four weeks I will be booted up (don\u2019t be jealous, you can borrow it when I\u2019m done) I will be uber conscious of how important the lowly toe is.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Then, just a few days after the healing, and he loses his star status\u2026 it\u2019ll be back in the hood and shoved in the trunk. Stuck in his life of stinky anonymity.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">It seems a shame, but this is the metaphor of the church as well.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">So, many people are called to serve in difficult and obscure positions. These places have no glory and can probably only be done by a select few. Not because only a few have the skills, but because only a few have the heart and only a few are called.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Not many would aspire to be a toe, which is understandable. But, remember what Scripture says: <span style=\"mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\">\ufeff\ufeff <em>\u201cBut in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted the<\/em><\/span><em>m to be.\u201c <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Thats\u2019 why when a toe goes AWOL and wants to be a hand, the whole body suffers!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">In the church we sometimes suffer from the disease of MBP (Migrating Body Parts). But, we need to understand that whatever our function is in the body of Christ\u2026 that function is essential!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Once again, God\u2019s word says, <em>\u201cOn the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"><em><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">So, this really means two things for us: first, if you are not serving the local church somewhere you are crippling it. I know from experience, it\u2019s nearly impossible to get around when \u201cThat Little Piggy\u201d is gone to market. Get in the game! Second, if you are serving, know that wherever you are, your position is ultimately important to the health and balance of the entire body. Stay there and stay strong.
